Top 10 Longest NH in India:
NH 44
This is the longest national highway in India. It connects the two extreme ends of India: Kanyakumari in the south and Srinagar in the north. Passing through 12 states of India including Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Delhi, Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir, this longest NH in India is 3745 kilometres long.
NH 27
This is the second-longest highway in India which connects extreme eastern and western regions of India. Passing through seven important states of India that includes Assam, Jharkhand, Orissa, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh and West Bengal, this National Highway connects Silchar religion in Assam with the Porbandar region in Gujarat. It is an important NH because it connects many major cities like Kharagpur, Kolkata, Nagpur, Surat, Amravati and Sambalpur.
NH 48
Next name in our list of top 10 longest highways of India is NH 48 which comes at the third spot with a length of 2,807 kilometres. It was called NH 4 and NH 8 in the past before its name was changed to NH 48. It connects the capital of India to the southern state of Chennai. Coming at the fourth place in our list with a length of 2,317 kilometres, NH 52 is also regarded as one of the largest highways in India. It starts from a city of Punjab called Sangrur and terminates in the Ankola region of Karnataka. It crosses six states of India namely; Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana and Karnataka. Also famous as NH 221 in the past, it comes at the 5th spot in our list of longest Highways of India. Beginning from a town of Uttarakhand known as Sitarganj and crossing 8 states, It ends in the Ibrahimpatnam region of Andhra Pradesh covering a distance of 2,040 km. Few of the important cities which are connected by this Highway are Kondapalli, Mallavaram, Kottagudem, Konta, Jagdalpur, Bhadrachalam, Mandla, Katni, Raipur, Rewa, Jabalpur, Prayagraj, Lucknow and Raebareli of the states of Uttarakhand, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh respectively.
NH 6
At the sixth place comes NH 6 with its length measuring 1,873 kilometres. It is constructed in the North-Eastern part of the country and is considered to be very useful for trade activities. It is also joined to various other National Highways like NH 40, NH 37, NH 44, NH 154, NH 2, NH 53 and NH 54. Crossing through the states of Assam, Meghalaya and Mizoram, it connects important regions like Panchagram, Badarpur, Jorabat, Shillong and Aizawl. NH 53
This Highway connects the Hazira region in Gujarat with the Paradip port of Odisha. It is spread over a length of 1,781 kilometres, crossing the states of Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Orissa. This 7th longest NH in India plays an important role by connecting important regions like Dubri, Chandikhol, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Saraipali, Raipur, Nagpur, Akola, Bhusawal, Nasirabad, Jalgaon, Dhule, Arang and Haridaspur.
NH 16
The next highway in our list is NH 16 with a length measuring 1,711 kilometres. It was also amongst the highways included in the ‘Golden Quadrilateral’ project and was previously called by the name NH 5. Connecting two important states of India Chennai and West Bengal, it begins from the Kolkata region of West Bengal. It ends in the state of Chennai in the southern part of India while crossing the states of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Orissa and West Bengal. Currently, being a part of the “National Highways Development” project, it joints important cities like Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Visakhapatnam, Guntur, Baleshwar, Kharagpur, Vijayawada along with Chennai and Kolkata.
NH 66
Spread over a length of 1,622 kilometres, this national highway which was earlier famous by the name NH 17, is the ninth longest highway in India. It is an important highway which connects the western region with the southern part. It joins Panvel(Maharashtra) with Kanyakumari while going through five Indian states of Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Goa and Tamil Nadu connecting cities like Kannur, Kasaragod, Taliparamba, Kottakkal, Valanchery, Kochi, Tirurangadi, Payyoli and Feroke.
NH 19
The last name in our list is NH 19 which connects Kolkata with Delhi. NH 19 passes through the states of Jharkhand, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi and West Bengal.
