Bollywood Movies Based on True Stories List
RAAZI (2018)
The first film in our list of Hindi movies based on true stories is Raazi. Starring Vicky Kaushal and Alia Bhatt in the main lead under the direction of Meghna Gulzar, the film is based on an inspiring real-life story of a Kashmiri girl Sehmat, who works as an Indian spy in Pakistan during the Indo Pak war (1971).
She got married to a Pakistani military officer and put her life in danger for the security of her nation. The film tells her journey from being a daughter to a wife and a spy who dedicated her life to her nation.
The story and the music were well appreciated, and the actors also gained a lot of praise from the critics and fans.
PARMANU: THE STORY OF POKHRAN (2018)
This is another excellent Bollywood movie based on a true story. The film is about one of the most secret operations of the government of India. The film showcases the testing of five nuclear bombs in the Pokhran range of India in 1998. This is an excellent film with excellent soundtracks and direction and is a must-watch.
BLACK FRIDAY (2007)
The next movie on our list of true story based movies is Black Friday. Directed by Anurag Kashyap, this film was released in India after three years of its international release.
This movie is based on the true story of Mumbai blasts which took place in 1993, which put the whole nation in terror. The film shows the circumstances which led to the blasts and the ensuing investigation carried out by the police.
POORNA (2017)
This is one of the best biographic movies. The movie tells us about a 13-year-old girl from Telangana named Poorna who became the youngest girl to climb the highest peak of the world: Mount Everest in 2014. This movie has also got a place in our true story movies list.
MANJHI – THE MOUNTAIN MAN (2015)
This is one of the best movies of Nawazuddin Siddiqui. The film is about the story of a poor labourer from Bihar, Dashrath Manjhi who made out 110 meters long and 9.1 meters wide path through the mountains by just using his hammer and chisel.
The acting is excellent, and so is the direction by Ketan Mehta. The film gained a lot of critical appreciation and is included in our list of Bollywood movies based on true stories.
SARBJIT (2016)
This movie is the biography of Sarabjit Singh, who unknowingly entered Pakistan’s border and was arrested and convicted for spying and was sentenced to death by the court. Starring Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Randeep Hooda, the film is one of the best Hindi movies based on a true story.
AIRLIFT (2016)
The film starring Akshay Kumar in the leading role is based on the world’s most massive human evacuation operation. Thousands of Indians living in Kuwait were successfully brought back to India with the help of a businessman (played by Akshay Kumar) when Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait.
Akshay Kumar won National Film Award for Best Actor for this film, and thus, we have included this movie in the top ten true stories based Bollywood movies list.
SPECIAL 26 (2013)
This film is about a real incident that happened in Mumbai in 1987, where a group of 26 individuals, posed as CBI officers, made a fake income tax raid on a jewellery shop. The film is based on a true story and was a great hit.
NEERJA (2016)
Ram Madhvani’s film Neerja, which is based on the highjack of Pan Am Flight 73 on 5th November 1987, in Pakistan where 20 passengers along with Neerja Bhanot were killed. This movie also gets a spot in our list of top movies based on true stories.
SWADES (2003)
Swades movie is based on the story of an NRI couple, Ravi Kuchimanchi and Aravinda Pillalamarri, who designed the pedal power generator after returning to back to India. Their efforts helped to light many villages based schools.
Shah Rukh Khan, playing the role of Mohan Bhargava, has shown excellent acting skills, and this film is also included in our list of top Indian movies based on true stories.
