The best of Kaziranga National Park
This natural beauty and wonder are situated near the great Brahmaputra River. It lies in Assam’s Golaghat, Karbi, Anglong, and Nagaon districts. You’ll find lots of wildlife that is unique to India here. For example, this part is home to 66% of all of the rhinoceroses in the world. The fact that it contains a vast diversity of wildlife and flora over a fairly large piece of land is why the UN declared it a World Heritage Site long ago.
Endangered species are safe here.
Indeed, endangered species like the tiger call this sanctuary home. Because they are safe here, their numbers have increased. This is what prompted Kaziranga to be designated as a tiger reserve more than fourteen years ago. The park is also home to other threatened species like the Asian elephant, the water buffalo, and the swamp deer. Kaziranga has many breeding programs for these types of species. This explains why their numbers have increased dramatically in recent years.
Kaziranga’s achievements
The organization BirdLife International has officially recognized Kaziranga as being an important bird area. The park is home to some of the largest populations of protected waterfowl in Asia! Indeed, Kaziranga is one of India’s successes in terms of wildlife conservation efforts. The fact that it occupies a place in East Asia with a large concentration of the most diverse flora and fauna in Asia contributes to this. If you visit this national park, you’ll indeed be blown away by all of the different wildlife species in terms of plants and animals that live in harmony.
Terrain

History
The British government designated Kaziranga as a national park in 1905. The park celebrated its centennial anniversary 15 years ago. The concept of Kaziranga National Park first materialized in 1904 when the then Viceroy of India, Lord Curzon of Kedleston, visited the area that would become the national park with his wife Mary Curzon, Baroness Curzon of Kedleston. The two hoped to see lots of rhinoceroses there because the area was this species’ homeland. However, they still saw no rhinoceroses even after exploring the area extensively. It was then that Mary asked her husband to create a park to help protect the threatened species.
Kaziranga National Park was officially created on June 1, 1905. It was initially only 232 square kilometers. It has since expanded.
